Community Rehabilitation Program
The program concentrates on bringing people with disabilities toward the highest level of self-sufficiency and economic independence possible. Individuals receive wages during training.
Includes: Formal evaluation of vocational interests and abilities, vocational training, extended employment, job placement, and follow-up services.
Eligibility: Ages 18 and over, with a physical or mental disability.
Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Mobile Crew Training Program
This program provides training and paid work experience in janitorial and landscaping services.
Eligibility: Individuals must be enrolled in the Salem County Rehabilitation Center.
Supported Employment
The program provides pre-placement training, counseling, employment search and development, job placement and follow-up services.
Eligibility: Ages 19 and over with motivation for employment and certification by NJ Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
Long-Term Follow-Along
The program provides assistance in selecting and obtaining competitive employment. On-the-job support and follow-up services are provided as needed.
Eligibility: People with disabilities who are ready for work in the community but need assistance in obtaining and maintaining employment.
Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop provides training and employment opportunities to people with physical and/or mental disabilities.
Located at 145 W. Broadway, Salem, the shop sells new and gently used clothing, household articles, small appliances, furniture, books and a variety of other items.
The hours are 9 am – 3 pm Tuesday-Saturday.
Donations are accepted Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9 am – 2 pm at the Thrift Shop.
Self-Advocacy
The program is an individual organized and operated support group with staff liaison. Activities include community volunteerism, voter registration, social functions, and issue-oriented conferences.
Eligibility: Any person with a disability who is interested in issues that affect people with disabilities.
Day Habilitation
The program provides an environment designed to promote adult behaviors, work attitudes, and incentives to use personal time constructively. It is organized around normally recurring events of daily life and presents opportunities for training in perception, fine and gross coordination, communication, socialization, and daily living skills.
Eligibility: Individuals must be approved for services by the Division of Developmental Disabilities.
Group Homes (2)
The program provides a normalized residential experience for adults with developmental disabilities who require training and supervision to achieve their innate potential.
Eligibility: Ages 22 and over, individuals of the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities.
Respite Care
Trained respite care workers care for people with developmental disabilities in their homes, providing relief time for the family caregivers.
Eligibility: Families or children or adults with developmental disabilities who are approved for services by the Division of Developmental Disabilities. The program provides a normalized residential experience for adults with developmental disabilities who require training and supervision to achieve their innate potential.
Eligibility: Ages 22 and over, individuals of the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities.
Self-Hired Respite
Respite provides family caregivers a short period of rest or relief by arranging alternate caregiving for the family member with a developmental disability.
Eligibility for individuals under 18: determined through Performcare.
Services:
Community Inclusion
Services that are provided outside of an individual’s home that support and assist individuals in educational enrichment or recreational activities.
Individual and Community-Based Supports
Services that provide direct support and assistance for individuals with or without the caregiver present, in or out of an individual’s residence. This is to achieve and/or maintain the outcomes of increased independence, productivity, enhanced family functioning and inclusion in the community.
Ancillary Services:
- Transportation: Provided for Community Rehabilitation Program and Day Habilitation.
- Information/Referral: Provided for all individuals and the general public for matters such as education, disability benefits, taxes, social security, etc.
- Fees: All programs are free of charge with the exception of transportation for extended employment and admission to some recreational activities. State agencies sponsoring services may impose financial needs criteria.
